"Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you."
Middle School and High School are times of enormous growth for our youth. There is much distraction and temptation for teenagers, which makes it all the more important that they are plugged into a family of faith where they are supported and loved.
sunday school, book discussion group
In Middle School, our kids begin Confirmation Journey. In 6th and 7th grades grade, they study the Old and New Testaments. In 8th grade, they learn more about the Presbyterian Church and their own journey of faith. They have an adult mentor who walks with them that year, at the end of which they write their own Faith Statements make their public profession of faith during worship.
Our high schoolers start Sunday School with breakfast that they have prepared followed by a discussion-based class.
Every Wednesday our high schoolers have a book discussion or bible study group.
On Sunday evenings our Middle and High Schoolers gather for fun activities, choir and dinner together. They have gone bowling, to Carowinds, Laser Quest, Sky High and Christmas Town and have done photo scavenger hunts, 180 Weekend and gone to plays. Each year our youth serve at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center and take treats to nursing homes. They have fundraisers to purchase Christmas presents for underprivileged children. Throughout the year, they do in depth bible studies that help them build stronger relationships with one another and relate their challenges as teenagers with their faith in Jesus Christ.
Our High Schoolers participate in missions locally, out of state or out of the country. Past mission trips have been to Savannah, Atlanta, Canada, Puerto Rico and Alaska where they worked on repairing homes and other structures.
Our college age students have been on mission trips to the Dominican Republic, the Western Navaho Reservation and Houston.
Members of our 8th grade Confirmation Class lead a unison reading of scripture each Sunday and during special services on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. Our high schoolers lead the congregation in reading scripture each Sunday and during special services, lead a Youth Sunday service and sing in our choirs. At the end of each school year, we recognize our high school graduates and junior marshals during worship.
