CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Our Story
First Presbyterian Church of Belmont is not only a place for Sunday worship, but also a center of outreach, learning, fellowship, and care for our neighbors. It is a gathering place for our Weekday School families, a home for youth, children and adult ministries, and a welcoming space for community groups and service opportunities that extend Christ's love beyond our doors.
Over time, faithful use and the passing of years have brought natural wear to our beloved facilities. Recognizing the need to care for and preserve this sacred space, the Session formed a Long-Range Planning Committee to prayerfully assess and prioritize needed capital improvements. Through thoughtful planning and positive feedback from congregation-wide focus groups, it became clear that we share a deep commitment to both preserving our architectural heritage and preparing our campus to serve future generations.
RENEWED SPACES FOR WORSHIP, EXPANDED ROOM FOR DISCIPLESHIP AND OUTREACH, AND STRENGTHENED FOUNDATIONS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
Yet the story of First Presbyterian is not only about what has been—it is about what God is doing now. As the prophet Isaiah writes, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?,” we are reminded that God is indeed doing a new thing, and we are called to respond faithfully.
This Capital Campaign represents a historic moment in the life of First Presbyterian Church of Belmont. An opportunity to honor our past, care for our present, and prepare faithfully for the future. We invite the continued support of our dedicated congregation and broader community as we come together in this important effort on behalf of the church and ministry we so deeply love and care for. Through prayer, generosity, and shared commitment, we trust that God will bless this endeavor as we “Build for God’s Mission and Renew for His Glory.”
CAMPAIGN GOALS
The life of our church is flourishing—youth growing in discipleship, adults gathering to learn, Weekday School families filling classrooms with energy, mission teams preparing to serve, and community partners seeking space to collaborate. Yet much of this ministry now happens in areas stretched beyond their original purpose.
The Outreach Center will answer that need. More than a gathering hall or gym, it will stand as a “GEM” within the Belmont community—something shaped with care and designed to reflect the light of Christ.
G — Gather: A place where youth, adults, families, and community partners come together in fellowship and connection.
E — Exchange: A space for teaching, worship, and encouragement—where faith is nurtured, scripture explored, and lives shaped.
M — Mission: A launching point for service, locally and globally, equipping believers for Christ’s work in the world.
This flexible, dedicated facility will support children, youth, adult programs, and community outreach, allowing ministries to grow beyond the limits of our current building. It gives our youth a home where they can build deep friendships, explore their faith, and connect with mentors who care about their future. It also extends our ministry beyond our membership—creating a true community hub known for welcome, service, and hope.
Establishing this center continues our legacy of service and positions us to meet people where they are—strengthening connection, care, and God’s impact in our community.
A NEW OUTREACH CENTER
Our stained-glass windows, designed by Marguerite Gaudin of the Willet Stained Glass Studio in Philadelphia, are visual storytellers of Scripture that have shaped worship for generations. These windows preserve and important part of our church’s history and spiritual identity, but need protective coverings and repairs to preserve them for future generations. Our campaign will fund protective coverings and necessary repairs.
Stained-Glass Window Repair
Our church roof, original to 1966 construction, has exceeded its 50-year expected lifespan. The concrete tiles and flat thermoplastic roofing areas show significant wear. Addressing these issues now prevents costly future damage and ensures our facilities are maintained. Our campaign will fund preparations for roof replacement.
Roof Maintenance/Replacement
Our beloved 1927 Austin organ plays a vital role in our worship tradition. With the generous donation of historic pipework from the 1929 Reuter Pipe Organ at UNC Chapel Hill, we have a rare opportunity to create an organ that more fully supports congregational singing and glorifies God. Our campaign will fund an initial engineering study, but the larger project will be funded outside of this campaign.
