"And God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good."
(Genesis 1:3-4a)
Isaiah's prophesy declares "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of darkness, on them has light shined." (Isaiah 9:2)
The psalmist proclaims 'Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105)
In John, Chapter 1, verse 4-5, of Jesus Christ we read "In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
The theme of light is beautifully woven throughout Scripture, and the light is always good!
At First Presbyterian Church in Belmont, early in the morning, God's magnificent, created light shines through the stained glass windows and illuminates the stories of God's covenant relationship with his people across our Sanctuary. As darkness falls at night, our Dixon lights illuminate the windows from the inside out, sharing that witness with our community. We invite you to visit this section of our website that details those windows in our Sanctuary, Chapel and Chancel Rooms, their images and their stories. We hope you will enjoy the beauty, remember the story, and hear the message each image reflects. You can also learn about stained glass and the history of our windows in our Document Library.
Most importantly, we hope you will join us each Sunday morning as we worship God, the creator of the light, the giver of the Word, and the One revealed through his only Son, Jesus Christ . . . the true Light of the World.
Guide us, O God, by your Word and Holy Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover your peace.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
