Feed the Children

Description: A shockingly high number of elementary age children in Gaston County go hungry when school is out because they do not have the hot lunches they receive at school. To meet this need, hot lunches are prepared by volunteers at First UMC in Belmont and FPC Belmont assists by helping to deliver the hot food to Catawba Heights students during Christmas and Spring break.

Time Involved: about 1 hour, as often as you choose

Back Pack Weekend Food Program

Description: We have joined with other organizations in Gaston County to meet the need for feeding high school students on the weekends. We pack back packs full of food each week for students at East Gaston High School who have been referred to the program. We deliver to the school weekly on Thursday, help stock shelves and inventory the food.

Time Involved: 15 minutes to 1 hour, once a week or as you choose

Family Promise

Description: Family Promise is a nonprofit organization that helps homeless families achieve independence through support programs and activities. Gaston County churches take turns during the year to provide 1 week of lodging, meals and activities for the guests. Our host week is usually in February or March. Opportunities to serve include joining families for fellowship, providing a meal, or be an overnight host, staying with the families at the Ford House.

Time: approximately 2 hours at the church, unless you are an overnight host. You can also help when the other Belmont churches host.
