An Invitation

Interested in becoming a member?

This church extends the friendliest greetings and invites you to worship with us regularly.

Ways to Join

Joining a church family is a very important step.  The Pastor and Session of First Presbyterian Church want to help you in making this committment.  Please let us know if there is any way we may assist you.  There are three ways you may join the church:

1)  Transfer of Letter:  Members of another Christian church may join First Presbyterian Church by Transfer of Letter.  We will request a Letter of Transfer from your home church indicating your active membership in that congregation.

2)  Reaffirmation of Faith:  Perhaps you have not been an active member of a church for a while.  You may join by Reaffirmation of Faith whereby you reaffirm the vows you first took when you joined the church.

3)  Profession of Faith:  Some people have never joined a church.  Those persons are given the opportunity to do so by public Profession of Faith before the congregation during worship.

How to Join

Inquirers' Classes for new members are offered periodically during the year on five consecutive Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour beginning at 9:30 in the Session Room.  These classes are announced in the Sunday bulletin and explain the life and mission of our congregation.  They are especially helpful to those who are new to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Reformed Tradition.

When to Join

New Members will be received into membership during a special meeting of the Session on Sunday morning.  When you meet with the Session, you will be asked the following questions:

1.  Do you acknowledge yourself to be a sinner in the sight of God, justly deserving God's displeasure, and without hope save in God's sovereign mercy?

2.  Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and depend upon Him alone for your salvation as He is offered in the gospel?

3.  Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomes the followers of Jesus Christ?

4.  Do you promise to serve Christ in His church to the best of your ability by supporting and participating in Her worship and work, and Her ministry to others?

5.  Do you submit yourself to the government and discipline of the church, and promise to further Her unity, purity, and peace?

Please contact our Pastor, Sam Warner, with any questions.
