About our Program

The First Presbyterian Day School opened its doors in 1985.  Our Day School offers full day classes for children six weeks old until Kindergarten, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, 52 weeks per year, with the exception of ten scheduled holidays and one teacher workday.  We also provide after school care with pickup by bus from Belmont Central and Page Elementary schools.  Additionally, there is a Summer Session for children in Kindergarten through fifth grade.

The First Presbyterian Preschool program was added in 1995 and offers morning classes for children 2,3, and 4 years of age.  To be eligible for these classes, the child's birthday must be on or before October 16th.  Preschool is in session Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and follows the same teacher and workday schedule as the Gaston County Public School System.

The Weekday School curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate components and is child centered and thematic.  It has been designed to build self-esteem, stimulate a curiosity for learning, encourage creativity and instill a life long love of learning in each child.

The program is staffed by experienced, certified and credentialed staff.  There is an equal balance of active and quiet periods, fine motor and gross motor activities held indoors and outdoors, individual and group activities and teacher-directed along with child-initiated activities.

The Weekday School children learn that "Jesus Loves Me" and the three and four year old classes attend Chapel Time weekly with a First Presbyterian Church staff member.  Dance classes and computer instruction are also offered to three year olds and up, for an additional monthly fee.

A health certificate and current immunization record is required for each child prior to the first day of attendance.

Our food service program provides well balanced, nutritional meals and snacks meeting local, state and federal guidelines.  The Day School participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), requiring annual enrollment forms to be completed by parents in the fall.
