Sanctuary Choir
This choir is for senior high youth and adult men and women of diverse musical backgrounds. The repertoire spans the centuries and strives to be the best gift that we can offer to God. Requirements are a love of singing and a commitment to devote time each week to preparation of music for worship. This choir is responsible for Sunday morning worship from mid-August through May. Major choral works or musical offerings are presented each year during the worship hour. The choir also provides leadership for special services. This choir rehearses each Wednesday 7:15 – 8:45 p.m. Individual coaching is available upon request.
Youth Choir
Youth Choir is for 9th – 12th grade singers and meets on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. This choir sings monthly as well as for the Christmas Eve service and plan the music for Youth Sundays as well. Singers meeting attendance and behavior requirements are encouraged to attend the conference on Worship and Music at Montreat each year.
Chapel Choir
Youth Choir is for 5th - 8th grade singers and meets on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Note that this year 5th graders are invited to participate in this choir. A musical is planned for the spring. This choir sings monthly as well as for the Christmas Eve service and plan the music for Youth Sundays as well. Singers meeting attendance and behavior requirements are encouraged to attend the conference on Worship and Music at Montreat each year.
SonShine, Alleluia and Trinity Choirs - WOW
WOW is an integrated approach for grades K-5. Students learn about worship, stewardship, mission, living the Christian life using a variety of mediums. Children are grouped by age K, 1- 2, 3, 4-5. Age appropriate music is chosen to enhance the WOW curriculum as well as promote musical and spiritual growth. The program runs September through April and meets 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday. The Cherub Choir is for 3 and 4 year olds. They meet separtely. The SonShine Choir is for kindergarteners who learn worship etiquette, rehearsal manners, simple rhythms, ear training and melodic direction. The Alleluia Choir is for 1st - 2nd graders and teaches basis music reading skills, use of the hymnal and commitment to sharing time and talents. Trinity Choir is for grades 3-5. They learn to read musical notation and sing in two parts. Mini-sessions of six weeks each of drumming, drama and handchimes will offer an introduction to other art forms for worship to the 3rd-5th graders. These choirs participate in worship about once each month, and present a Christmas program in the evening during December. The Trinity Choir plans and leads a worship service in May. Moses and the Freedom Fanatics, a musical by Hal Hopson will be presented in the spring.
