Mi Escuela News
With monies earned during the current school year, the Beta Club of Belmont Middle School has voted to sponsor scholarships for six children during our second year of the Mi Escuela project. Many thanks to the students in Beta Club for their very generous donation and to Kathleen Boyce for facilitating the connection between the Beta Club and our Guatemala Partnership Program!
Note to 2007 Scholarship Donors: For those of you who are interested in corresponding with a scholarship recipient, we will be sending our first group of letters to Mi Escuela students in May. Clara Blalock’s fourth year students will be translating our letters into Spanish as a service project. Please send your letters by May 24th to Clara at clblalock@carolina.rr.com or mail them to her at 2918 Club Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054.
Please submit no more than one typed page in size 12 font, double-spaced. Begin your letter “Dear Scholarship Student”. Donors will be matched to a scholarship student when our letters are received in Coatepeque. The student will reply, providing you with a name and some information for your second letter.
For this initial letter, please introduce yourself and tell about your home and family. Ask a few questions that you’d like to know about the child. Anyone in a sponsor’s family may write the letter. This could be a great project for school-age children. If you would like to include photographs, please send them to Clara at the above address.
Thanks so much to all of our sponsors. You are making a positive impact on the lives of the Mi Escuela children.
