Construction Update for July 19, 2010

Construction Updates 

 

Construction began on our building renovation and new construction project on August 31, 2009.  This site will contain regular updates to keep our members, Weekday School families and visitors informed about changes in parking and building access and other important construction news.  If you have any questions, please call our church office 704-825-3357 or the Weekday School office 704-825-8225.

NARTHEX STAIRWAY

Demolition and the permanent elimination of the narthex stairway will begin on Monday, July 26.  The choir loft will be inaccessible for approximately two weeks.  it would then be our plan to provide limited access to the area (organist / sound system operator) by means of a temporary walkway from the new second floor to the choir loft area.    

 

PLAYGROUND SIDEWALK INSTALLATION

Installation of the sidewalk in the new young tots playground will begin the week of July 19. This is the next step in the ultimate installation of new playground equipment and synthetic surfacing. Fence pilasters for this playground are complete. Once it is operational and available to the Weekday School, the older and existing playground will be eliminated and grading for the new roadway will commence. The interior courtyard of the horseshoe will be utilized as temporary space while playground #2 is constructed.

 

FORD HOUSE DATA LINE RELOCATION

The data line providing communication to the Ford House has been successfully relocated. Our thanks to building committee member David Cloninger for making this happen.

 

BIO-RENTENTION PONDS

Many questions have been asked about the appearance of the bio-retention ponds close to the Scout Hut. These areas will eventually be addressed with an intensive and extensive landscaping plan which will result in a more attractive space than now exists.

 

THE NEW KITCHEN

The new kitchen has been certified by Gaston County Health Department and is now available to the Weekday School. There remains some comparatively minor cosmetic touch up to be completed which will not affect its use. Inadequate utensil storage issues have been addressed and a solution is in progress.

   

THE TEMPORARY WEEKDAY SCHOOL KITCHEN

The temporary Weekday School kitchenette has been taken offline in preparation for demolition in this space beginning on or about July 26. This area will ultimately contain one of the new bathrooms and a shower. The two refrigerator / freezers in this space have been relocated to the “ice maker room" in the new kitchen.

 

STRUCTURAL REDESIGNS

The structural redesign issues in the southern most corner of the narthex wall have been addressed and resolved.

 

THE NEW GATHERING AREA

The New Gathering Area continues to take shape with the installation of steel framing and flooring. The wall framing for the new gathering area bathrooms and the new staff offices has begun. 

 

 

PROJECT COMPLETION DATE

 

            The targeted completion date for the project remains:  SPRING 2011
