A FEW WORDS

During Worship the past two Sundays we have celebrated our Scouting Partnership with the BSA for boys (February 28th) and the GSA for girls (March 7th).  Our church serves almost 50 girls and more than 60 boys, and is blessed with enthusiastic scouts within our congregation and also from the larger Belmont community.  Detailed information on these groups may be found by clicking here or going to the “Ministries” heading above and following the links to “Children” and then to “Scouting.”

THIS SUNDAY

Our Visitors-Inquirers-New Members Class continues this Sunday, March 14th (meeting in the Sanctuary) with this week’s focus being the Program Ministries of our congregation. During Worship (10:50 a.m.) we will celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism (John Parks McCombs) on the 4thSunday in Lent.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Last Sunday, February 28th our congregation lost a beloved saint of our congregation in the death of Ruth Blanton Wilkie.  A Funeral Service was held this past Tuesday, March 2nd in our Sanctuary and then a Committal Service Tuesday afternoon in Rutherfordton.  In my remarks about Ruth I shared the following comment as a conclusion to the Meditation, and I share it with you for your thought and reflection:

Those of us who are “leaders” in the Church and often have so much to say;

those of us who wring our hands over what the future holds in these uncertain times; and,

those of us who struggle in frustration when people don’t seem to see life, and the world, and faith “exactly” the way we do;… we can learn “all” we really need to know from the Ruth Wilkies of this world.

For the Church will survive, and even thrive until God decides otherwise, as long as that quiet army of women and men whose “faithfulness” and “devotion,” whose “quiet demeanor” and “steady presence” continues to give the rest of us “a visible sign of God’s invisible grace.”
